PHILOSOPHY

We believe that children have rights.

A right to be loved, cared for, honoured, treasured, guided, supported, encouraged, empowered, nurtured, taught of good things and how to be confident, courageous, competent, resilient and compassionate.

Children love to play so let them play.

Children love to learn so let them learn.

Children love to laugh so let them have joy.

Family consists of those around us who we live with each day.  Family can be our blood relatives or not.  Family can be supportive but sometimes not.  Our family is often all that we know as a young child and is therefore significant to who we are, where we belong and who we become.

Family is everything to a child and to us.  Family is our network and our eyes into the world in which we live and how we see the outside world.

Teaching is sharing yourself with another in a way that engages and brings something new to them.

Teaching can empower others.

Teaching is varied in how we engage with others.

Teaching can be fun, but it can also be challenging.

Teaching can give others wisdom and opportunity.

But teaching must be good and it must be relevant and it must be effective.

The community surrounds the family with many things.  Sometimes this is hope.  Sometimes this is tragedy.  Sometimes there is a sense of calm, comfort and compassion.  Sometimes the child's community is fearful, rebellious and angry.

Whatever the child's community, it affects them now and forever, whether they stay in the same community or not.

Teachers, family, government, media, and civilisation create the community for the child.

PRIORITIES

PRIORITY 1

PROTECTIONS & CHILD SAFETY

All children deserve protections and to be taught how to protect themselves, including experiencing cultural safety and opportunities to enact their agency.

This is especially important for:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities

  • Children and families with complex needs or disabilities

  • LGBTQIA+ families and children

  • Children and families who are refugees or asylum seekers

PRIORITY 2

WORKFORCE CAPACITY & ETHICS

The education workforce deserves to be supported and honoured as one of the most important professions for humanity and for sustainable futures.

Our focus is to:

  • strengthen ethical practice and a commitment to the protections of children in education settings

  • build servant leadership practices that are dynamic, proactive, kind and compassionate

  • support graduate teachers and educators to flourish

  • enable experienced teachers and educators to consolidate and extend their knowledge, skills and capacities

  • build a workforce that is strong, resilient, agentic and supportive of each other, where wellbeing is at the centre

PRIORITY 3

QUALITY FOR ALL

Education settings are instrumental in the future directions of humanity. How we teach and provide learning environments for children, designs the society we will have in the future.

Quality education teaches children to be inclusive, ethical, and respectful whilst also supporting children to be curious, creative and critical thinkers.

All children deserve a learning environment that is safe, enabling, affirming, adaptive, proactive, responsive, respectful, kind, supportive, active and welcoming.
